Unique Japanese Katana with Chinese Aesthetic Elements
This project is a 3D model of a unique katana that combines traditional Japanese forms with distinctive elements of Chinese aesthetics. The design was inspired by the works of artist Benjamin MacDonald, whose creations blend different cultures and styles.
Blade: The traditionally curved katana blade has been adapted for this project with subtle Chinese influences. Thin decorative engravings, inspired by Chinese weaponry, are visible on the blade's surface. The blade textures reflect the aged steel, with signs of long-term use, including slight darkening and scratches.
Texturing: PBR materials were used to create realistic textures for the metal, leather, and decorative elements. Custom texture maps were designed to depict aging effects, such as dirt, tarnish, and minor wear on the weapon’s surface.
Tools: The model was created in Blender/Maya, textured in Substance Painter, and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.
This katana merges Japanese and Chinese cultural elements, resulting in a unique and memorable weapon with deep symbolism, inspired by the works of Benjamin MacDonald.
